Ghostface Screams His Way Into MTV's Killer Halloween
Where does the 'Scream' baddie rank among other horror icons? We're polling you all week to find out!
By Eric Ditzian
Ghostface from "Scream"
Photo: Dimension Films
Ghostface better get on his cell phone and start scaring the crap out of fans, because three days into MTV's Killer Halloween, the know-it-all "Scream" psycho is trailing his blood-spilling cinematic brethren in our voter-driven, category-by-category analysis of horror-movie murderers.
In terms of weaponry, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers trumped Ghostface's knife. And when it came to style, the "Scream" dude's black gown and oblong, am-I-sad-or-psychotic mask couldn't outdo Freddy's striped sweater, Jason's hockey mask or Michael's white-washed, blank-faced mask of terror. But perhaps today is Ghostface's day to shine, for now we turn to personality, and here this killer might just shine (or die trying).
Which horror-movie baddie has the best personality? Make your pick in our MTV Movies Blog poll!
Ghostface
Occupation: Student(s), stay-at-home-mom, filmmaker
Weapons: Knife, deep knowledge of the horror genre, irony
Archenemy: Sidney Prescott, innocent people living near Sidney Prescott
Profile: From his first ominously flirty phone call with Drew Barrymore in the 1996 original, Ghostface announced himself as a killer of unique talents and iconic potential. Ever since, the question "What's your favorite scary movie?" has taken on an entirely different meaning.
The key thing that separates Ghostface from most other horror-movie killers is that he's never the same person twice. Sometimes he's one malicious woman with a troubled sense of right and wrong; other times, he's two friends with an itch to draw blood and get famous. The only consistencies are that mask-and-gown getup, an encyclopedic knowledge of horror flicks, and a vendetta against Sidney Prescott, the teary-eyed damsel in distress played by Neve Campbell. Poor Sidney just can't catch a break.
Yes, there is always something a little nonsensical about these shifting Ghostfaces. You're telling me Sidney's boyfriend and his best pal murdered her mom and then went on a Woodsboro-wide killing spree, because why exactly? A couple of kids go from pursuing normal teenage goals like getting drunk and getting laid to wanting to be famous so badly they're willing — and able! — to become crazy-eyed killas? It sounds odd to say when we're talking about a genre in which a child molester can enter the dreams of his victims, but Ghostface always falls a bit short when it comes to believability, if only because the "Scream" franchise takes place in a pop-culture-saturated world so close to our own.
What makes Ghostface a wicked cool bad guy, then, is not why he stabs, but how. Hyper-steeped in horror-movie lore, he appropriates clichés and, in the bloody process, reinvents them. But let's not get too academic here. Ghostface has got swag. He's funny as hell, and when you least expect it, when you're still laughing from your gut, he stabs you in it.
Where do you think Ghostface falls in the scope of horror-movie psychopaths? Let us know in the comments!

Ian Ziering Celebrates Mia's First Halloween
Ian Ziering and his wife Erin are gearing up for baby's first Halloween! We spotted the happy couple - along with their adorable 6-month-old daughter Mia - at the pumpkin patch earlier this month.
And last Saturday (October 22), the Zierings hosted Mia's first Halloween party at their Los Angeles home. Each pint-sized guest received a nutritious gift pack from NurturMe with pumpkin/squash baby food. The new parents opened up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about their festive party: "We had 16 babies between the ages of 6 months to 9 months and one toddler and their parents."
Carrie Ann Inaba Defends 'Dancing with the Stars' Judges
Chaz Bono isn't angry about being voted off of Dancing with The Stars earlier this week, but he's not happy with what the judges had to say before they sent him packing. After the 42-year-old contestant's dance with partner Lacey Schwimmer on Monday, judge Bruno Tonioli called Bono "a basketball, a penguin, an Ewok" who is "cute and cuddly." In an interview with Good Morning America, Bono responded by saying that he "took offense" to Tonioli's comments and feels the show treats overweight men differently than the rest of the contestants.

Beyonce Puts 'Love On Top' In New Video Tease
Queen B is reportedly set to release her latest 4 video this week, just a week after she dropped 'Countdown.'
By Jocelyn Vena

Just days after she released her video for "Countdown," are you feeling like you already need a new Beyoncé video? No problem. Queen B's got your back!
Even though she just released the Adria Petty-directed, retro-fied clip for "Countdown" last Thursday on MTV and her "Party" clip is waiting in the wings, Beyoncé isn't holding back her video for "Love on Top." A teaser for the latest single from 4 dropped over the weekend.
Find out what the "Countdown" director had to say about B's video shoot!
The short clip features Beyoncé in an all-black spandex bodysuit, rocking a bedazzled captain's hat, tights and high-top sneakers. She shimmies in perfect step with her all-male backup singers as she smiles her way through the song. The video has the appearance of a performance rehearsal taking place in a loft space full of windows.
While her baby bump was on full display in her "Countdown" video, she doesn't appear to be rocking one in this video. Essence.com reported that the video is slated to drop this week, though no further details are available.
In the minute-plus video tease for "Love on Top," we see B on the same set with the same group of dancers — a far cry from the multicolored, manically edited "Countdown" clip that premiered on MTV last Thursday. The mom-to-be referenced everything from "Funny Face" to "Flashdance" in the fast-paced video, which matched the song's urgent beat. Co-director Adria Petty told MTV News that she and Beyoncé handpicked the video's many pop-culture references. "I brought Beyoncé a number of references and we picked some out together," Petty revealed. "Most were German modern-dance references, believe it or not. But it really evolved."
Beyoncé famously performed "Love on Top" at the VMAs back in August. As she danced around the stage in her sequined blazer, it was her baby bump reveal at the end of her performance that made headlines, serving as confirmation that she and Jay-Z are expecting their first baby together.
The video tease is a variation on the VMA performance, which featured Beyoncé performing the track with several backup singers. That night, Beyoncé took the stage and, during the opening notes of the song, told the room, "Tonight I want you to stand up on your feet. I want you to feel the love that's growing inside of me."

Usher Collaborator Rico Love Calls Kelly Rowland's 'Motivation' 'Truly Organic'
Lil Wayne 'jumped on it,' Raymond v. Raymond writer tells Mixtape Daily.
By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Rob Markman
Behind the Beats: Rico Love
If more people read the credits behind some of R&B's biggest hits, Rico Love should be a household name. Born Richard Preston Butler Jr., the former Florida A&M University student is now one of the music industry's most-sought-after singer/songwriters.
After writing hits for Usher ("There Goes My Baby"), Beyoncé ("Sweet Dreams") and Diddy-Dirty Money ("Hello Good Morning"), to name a few, one of Rico's biggest hits to date is Kelly Rowland's "Motivation."
"It came about in a truly organic way," Rico told Mixtape Daily of the Jim Jonsin-produced "Motivation." "We had this meeting in New York: myself and Sylvia [Rhone] and Kelly. And they just were saying, 'We need to find that single; we need that big single.' Everybody was asking for an uptempo, actually.
"I flew down to Miami the next day, and that Tuesday, we got back in the studio, and Jim started playing these chords, and then coming up with these little sounds — the signature sounds that Jim comes up with. I just told him to lay it like a skeleton idea, and I jumped in the booth, and I started with the verse, and I kind of sang my way all the way through the record."
Rowland, formerly of Destiny's Child, was in the studio while Rico was laying down the reference track and made her regard for the song known immediately. "Kelly was there and watched the whole process," Rico recalled. "As soon as I finished singing the demo, usually an artist wants to live with it or listen to it for a little while. She just said, 'I want to cut it right now.' So she jumped in the booth, and we cut the record."
"Motivation" became the lead single for Rowland's third album, Here I Am, which was released in April. The song, which peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, features a verse from Lil Wayne.
"Lil Wayne got out of jail a few days later, and as soon as he got out of jail, [Rowland] went to see him, and he jumped on it," Rico explained. "It was the most organized situation ever. It was nothing contrived about it."
There's been nothing manufactured about Rico's accomplishments either. Starting his musical career as a rapper, he has signed former Roc-a-Fella rapper Young Chris to his Universal/Motown-distributed Division 1 label.
After leaving Florida A&M to pursue music, Rico caught the attention of Usher, and penned songs for the R&B singer, including "Throwback." Other artists soon benefitted from his songwriting, including T.I., Pleasure P and Mario. Rico takes pride in being versatile with his talents, preferring not to make specific songs intended for specific artists only.
"Sometimes, when you keep an artist in mind, you'll limit yourself," Rico explained. "You won't go a place that they probably would go because you're thinking, "Nah, she wouldn't say this," or "He wouldn't do this," or "He wouldn't say this," and "This melody is out of the way for them."
"When I get a chance to just get into the studio and just write music and just produce music and sit at the piano and tell a guy where I want to hear the chords and create the progressions and just freely make music, it's a lot more fun."
Lately, Rico has been back in the studio with Usher. In 2007, he was signed to the singer's former US Records via J Records. But his debut album was never released, and he and Usher went their separate ways.
But as Rico become a songwriting force, the two eventually started working together again. The first song they recorded was the Grammy-winning "There Goes My Baby" from 2010's Raymond v. Raymond. Now, Rico is working on Usher's forthcoming album and embracing the pressure of surpassing its predecessor's platinum sales and critical success.
"I feel like this is what separates the boys from the men," Rico said of working with Usher. "This week, we been creating records together. We had two mics, two headphones set up in the booth, and we just sit there and vibe out.
"These first few days have been amazing. We got four records cut so far that sound super amazing. I'm super excited about it. I'm just anxious for the world to hear it."

Don't expect to contact Patricia Arquette via Facebook anytime soon.
The Medium actress announced via Facebook that she is closing her account after a disturbing incident with another user. Although Arquette, 43, doesn't go into details, she explains that she's been avoiding more than just Facebook for the past two weeks.
"Okay sweet people—This will be my last facebook post," the Emmy winner wrote Oct. 6. "After my usual not checking email and cell messages for 10 days my security guys chewed me out and let me know why I had to end my 'social experiment.'"
Arquette continues with her explanation about whether celebrities and fans can overcome their differences to become friends.
"The experiment was, Could a celebrity actually friend strangers and get to know them as a person?" she adds. "'Just a regular person? Could you really become friends? Could you move past all that they had in their mind about you and actually show them the real you? Could you get to know the real them a little? I would say on a large part yes. A beautiful and sweet yes...However, apparently 10 days or so that all changed."
Then Arquette pleads for her fans to be careful on Facebook -- even with each other:
"Now for the IMPORTANT PART-I ASK YOU NOT TO FRIEND ANYONE HERE THAT YOU DON'T PERSONALLY KNOW!!! THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! JUST BECAUSE THEY WERE ON THIS PAGE DOESN'T REALLY MEAN THEY ARE SAFE!!!! I'M GOING TO SAY IT AGAIN BECAUSE IT IS IMPORTANT_ IT DOESN'T MEAN THEY ARE SAFE."
Despite her Facebook closure, the actress does plan to continue using her Twitter account as well as periodically updating her charity, GiveLove.org's Facebook page. But she will no longer risk having a Facebook page where she interacts with her fans.

Kevin Jonas Unveils Ronald McDonald House Media Room
Doing his best to give back to those in need, Kevin Jonas attended the unveiling of the AOL media room at the Ronald McDonald House in New York City on Friday (October 7).
The Jonas Brothers rocker took to the locale to help commemorate October?s National Children?s Health Month by spending time with young cancer patients and their families as they celebrated the newly renovated state of the art facility.

Johnny Depp Signs On For Dr. Seuss Biopic
Actor, set to produce film, might star as the beloved children's author.

In between stints as a pirate, a scissor-handed freak and a chocolate-factory wizard, Johnny Depp has played a real-life hopped-up writer, a cross-dressing director and a notorious bank robber.
Now, the star has signed on to work on a film about one of the most-beloved authors of all time: Dr. Seuss. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Depp will produce and potentially star as Seuss (born Theodor Geisel), author of children's classics such as "Green Eggs and Ham," "The Cat in the Hat," "Horton Hears a Who!" and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" In addition to being turned into a number of hit movies ("Grinch" and "Cat in the Hat"), Geisel's books have sold more than 200 million copies worldwide.
The movie is unlikely to rely as heavily on CGI as Depp's $1 billion-grossing foray into "Alice in Wonderland" with director Tim Burton, but it's possible the Seuss film will include animated elements. Universal and production house Illumination Entertainment, currently joined in postproduction on an animated adaptation of Seuss' "The Lorax," and Infinitum Nihil also will work on the biopic.
Seuss began his career in the late 1920s as a magazine illustrator, then shifted to drawing ads for companies including General Electric and NBC during the Great Depression, before shifting to political cartoons during World War II and, finally, turning his focus to children's books in the 1950s. Among his first efforts was "Horton," as well as 1957's "Cat in the Hat" and "Grinch." Geisel died of throat cancer in September 1991 at the age of 87.
Depp already has a number of planes on the runway, including a turn as journalist Paul Kemp in "The Rum Diary," a reported cameo in Martin Scorsese's 3-D adaptation of "Hugo Cabret," another collabo with Burton on "Dark Shadows" and a possible starring role as Tonto in the stalled big-screen remake of "The Lone Ranger."

Britney Spears Drops Official 'Till The World Ends' Remix
New track with Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha follows leaked version, plus Brit tweets single's cover art.
By Jocelyn Vena
The "Till the World Ends" Femme Fatale remix
Photo: Jive
Just days after it was leaked on Friday, Britney Spears and her femme fatales, Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha, dropped their official remix of "Till the World Ends."
The new version of the song was produced by Dr. Luke and Dream Machine. Brit half-whispers " 'Till the World Ends' remix" before the beat kicks in and Nicki hits her verse hard. She spits fierce lines like, "Sniff, sniff, cries/ I done slayed your whole entire f---ing life."
Then Britney's sex-kitten vocals kick in for the song's first verse. "That's Britney, bitch! I'm Nicki Minaj and that's Ke$ha," the Queens MC declares before K sings the chorus. The beat is harder, the loops are sassier and the song is grimier than the original version, which was the second single from Femme Fatale. The newly added dubstep portion takes the one from "Hold It Against Me" to a new level by adding in bass-heavy synths.
Ke$ha, of course, wrote the track for Britney, and the ladies certainly don't seem to mind sharing the spotlight with each other. The official track isn't much different than the version that leaked over the weekend, though Spears did have something brand-new to share with her fans just as the song dropped on iTunes and streamed on her website.
Spears tweeted the artwork for the single, which features the original press photo of Spears along with separate photos of Nicki on the left and Ke$ha on the right. Spears wrote, "@NickiMinaj @Keshasuxx Too much fierceness for one cover! Thanks for lending your voices girls... #TTWEREMIX — Brit"
Spears and Minaj have been hanging out a lot in the lead-up to their summer tour. They hung out at the Factory nightclub on Friday night after Minaj's show in Los Angeles. Spears later wrote, "Early rehearsal after a late night with my girl @NickiMinaj. Can't WAIT to get out on the road with you."

'Real Steel' Stars, Director Knock Out Misconceptions
'It's more 'Rocky' than it is Rock 'Em Sock 'Em [Robots],' director Shawn Levy tells MTV News of early skeptics.
By Kara Warner
Hugh Jackman in "Real Steel"
Photo: DreamWorks
For those who've been following the comings and goings of "Real Steel," it's a pretty well-known fact that when the project was first announced back in late 2009, the Internets lit up with comments and rants against the studio for green-lighting a Rock 'Em Sock Em Robots movie.
And while everyone is entitled to their own opinion, the problem with that perception, according to the stars and director themselves, is that it's incorrect.
"A lot people [say], 'What is it, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots?' But it's got a lot of heart," Hugh Jackman told MTV News at the film's premiere. "This movie is really about the relationships of everyone involved, and I think it's going to surprise people. I saw it with my mother-in-law, my wife and my kids at the same screening, and they all were crying at one point, laughing, and they really got into it."
Director Shawn Levy admitted that he wasn't bothered so much by the quick critiques as he was amused, because they were analyzing elements of the film they hadn't seen and a script they obviously hadn't read.
"It's more 'Rocky' than it is Rock 'Em Sock 'Em. It's all about the heart, it's all about the characters," Levy explained. "The action is great, and if you're a young guy and you just want to come and watch robots wail on each other, great, you're going to love it. But if you're looking for more of an emotional experience, the movie is very much that."
Evangeline Lilly took the emotional aspect of the plot one step further and explained the film's overall message.
"I think the moral message here is: Never give up on yourself. Never sell out. Selling out is such a big thing nowadays, because our culture is so materialistic and money is everything, and in this film, this beautiful little boy played by Dakota [Goyo] will not sell out, and his father wants to, because his father, Hugh Jackman, is kind of pathetic compared to his son," she explained. "His son is like, 'Dude, I'm not giving up on myself, I'm not giving up on my robot, I'm not giving up on you.' It's beautiful, because it's supposed to be the inverse; the father is supposed to say that to the son. So it kind of breaks your heart to see a son redeem his father."

Josh Hutcherson Is 'Most Likely To Play A Superhero' In Our New Class
Actor talks about his breakthrough year and the 'Hunger Games' audition process.
By Kara Warner
Josh Hutcherson
Photo: Donato Sardella/ Getty Images
If you're not yet familiar with Josh Hutcherson, you're about to be.
The talented 18-year-old has been a working actor for half his life, quietly paying his dues with roles on television and in films, earning Hollywood street cred in films like "Kicking and Screaming," "Bridge to Terabithia" and "Journey to the Center of the Earth."
Then last year, Hutcherson suddenly evolved from dependable sweet-faced child actor to formidable future leading man with his buzzed-about performance in the award-season darling "The Kids Are All Right." That career momentum kicked into future-superstar gear when Hutcherson landed the highly coveted role of Peeta Mellark in the big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins' best-selling "Hunger Games."
All things considered, it's a no-brainer that Hutcherson made our New Class list as the "Actor Most Likely to Play a Superhero." MTV News caught up with him recently to talk about the honor, his very busy year and, of course, "The Hunger Games."
MTV News: You've experienced the whole award and recognition thing before, but how does it feel to be named to our New Class?
Josh Hutcherson: It's very nice, especially to be considered with the group I'm in here with, all peers of mine I admire very much. I've been an actor for a long time, so to finally get some recognition from some people that I think are really cool is pretty nice.
MTV: It seems like this past year has been a whirlwind. Take us through all the projects you're juggling at the moment.
Hutcherson: It's been crazy. I shot "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" the end of last year and the beginning of this year, then I went into a little short film I shot in Cuba with Benicio Del Toro ["7 Dias en La Habana"], which was really fun, and then this summer the whole time I spent shooting "The Hunger Games," which was an amazing experience. Very exciting, and I can't wait for that to come out.
MTV: Is there someone in the business whose career you'd like to emulate?
Hutcherson: I have a few people. I've always been a big Jake Gyllenhaal fan. I like how he goes from doing a bigger studio movie to a more independent film. I am a huge Christian Bale fan; I think he's incredible and can play any role and kill it. And I'm also a die-hard Ryan Gosling fan, so those are my guys I'd like to be like.
MTV: Do you make a conscious effort to go from smaller, independent films as well as big studio films?
Hutcherson: Yeah. It's all about balance; everything in life is about balance, in my opinion. You have to do the big studio movies to keep people caring about you in a way, and also for me, I've been really fortunate. I haven't done any big studio movies that suck. They've all been good material and that's the most important thing for my career, to choose the right material and to choose the characters that I care about and stories I want to tell, so that's kind of how I've gone about my career since I was 9, more or less.
MTV: So let's talk briefly about "The Hunger Games" and that crazy audition process.
Hutcherson: For the audition process, I came in the first time and read a few scenes for [director] Gary Ross and [author] Suzanne Collins and some of the other producers involved. Then maybe about a week or so, maybe two weeks later, I came in and did a screen test with [co-star] Jennifer [Lawrence], where I actually read the scenes with her so they could see how the chemistry worked. Both of them felt really great, but as an actor, you just pick apart every single thing that you do, so for me, I was on pins and needles waiting to find out. And then when I finally found out, my jaw hit the floor. I was so excited.

Rihanna Will Talk That Talk On Next Album
Fans unlocked the November 21 album's title on Facebook.
By Jocelyn Vena
Rihanna revealed the title of her November 21 album on Tuesday (October 4) with a little help from her fiercely loyal Navy. Her fans unlocked the new title on Facebook: Talk That Talk.
The sassy name is certainly a tongue-in-cheek jab at any naysayers, critics and haters. The always swagged-out Rihanna has been using Facebook to tease fans with bits and pieces about her album, the follow-up to 2010's Loud. So far, they've unlocked five pieces that have teased lyrics, looks and logos. For those playing at home, seven more remain.
Before she officially released the album title, Rihanna emphatically denied one fan's suggestion on Twitter to call the LP I'm Sexy and I Know It. "HELL NO," she responded on the social-networking site.
In late September, Rihanna dropped the album's lead single, "We Found Love." On the Calvin Harris-produced track, Rihanna proudly sings about the power of love. She shot a video for the single in Northern Ireland last month, even offending the farmer whose land she was using for the shoot. He felt that her "state of undress" during the shoot was "inappropriate."
But Rihanna isn't worried about other people's perceptions of her art. In a recent interview with British Vogue, Rihanna said she is anything but a role model. "See, people ... they want me to be a role model just because of the life I lead. The things I say in my songs, they expect it of me, and [being a role model] became more of my job than I wanted it to be. But no, I just want to make music. That's it."
Plus, she's very proud of her "We Found Love" video — skimpy costumes and all. "#WFLvid I really cant stop thinking about this video we just shot!" she tweeted at the time. "EASILY the BEST video I've done thus far!Definitely my fav 1,very powerful."

'It was really cool of her to come out and show that at the VMAs, 'cause music is her outlet,' newlywed says.

Kim Kardashian rushed back from her honeymoon this weekend and made it to the Nokia Theatre in time to present Best Male Video at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. But her favorite highlight of the evening was the same as many of us viewing from home: getting the Beyoncé pregnancy news!
The newlywed talked with MTV News' Jim Cantiello after the show and said that she loved seeing the pop star pat her pregnant belly onstage after running through a high-energy performance of her track "Love on Top."
At the beginning of her performance, Beyoncé emerged from the darkness, saying, "Tonight I want you to stand up on your feet. I want you to feel the love that's growing inside of me!"
Beyoncé and Jay-Z celebrate their big news backstage.
Married to hip-hop superstar Jay-Z for three years, the star has said time and time again that she planned on having a baby by the time she was 30, and she turns 30 on Sunday. Her husband beamed at the end of her performance while pal and collaborator Kanye West congratulated him.
None of that excitement was lost on Kardashian.
"Beyoncé is definitely my highlight," Kardashian said. "I adore her anyway, but it was so sweet. I thought it was really cool of her to come out and show that at the VMAs, 'cause music is her outlet. She could have done it with any magazine or news station, but she chose her home. I thought it was really cool."
And speaking of having babies, that's exactly what Kardashian said she'd be doing right now if she weren't busy with her ever-rising career.
"I would be a mom right now, for sure," she said, in response to a question from fans. "I love kids, and I would probably have done this a lot sooner."
The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards have wrapped, but the real action is just getting started! Stick with MTV News for winners, fashion pics, video and behind-the-scenes stories about everything that went down. Visit VMA.MTV.com for the latest.

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.

Officially, Lollapalooza ended Sunday night in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from the Killers and Jane's Addiction. Unofficially, it ended very early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures.
To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of Foo Fighters frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, Queens of the Stone Age mastermind Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere.
According to some reports, the Vultures actually turned down Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town.
Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures — Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar — ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called Never Deserved the Future, and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans).
The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard — Chicago Tribune critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" — delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Jim DeRogatis.
It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures — there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October.
Early Monday, a Crooked Vultures Twitter account, which had previously posted links to the band's official-looking Web site and the Metro's online ticketing site — posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a Deserve the Future T-shirt. Cost: $30.

Drizzy puts Toronto hometown on full display in latest Take Care clip.

All Drake cares about is money and the city that he's from, and in his "Headlines" video Drake puts both on full display. Standing center field in Toronto's Rogers Centre, Drizzy adjusts his black Toronto Blue Jays baseball cap as the stadium's scoreboard is lit up with the title of his October 24 album, Take Care.
The Young Money soldier released the clip on Sunday through his October's Very Own blog, three weeks before his sophomore LP is set to drop. Directed by OVO crew members Lamar Taylor and Hyghly Alleyne, "Headlines" doesn't necessarily follow a narrative but instead places Drake in a few different scenes, performing his rhymes for the camera and contemplating his comeback.
"I might be too strung out on compliments, overdosed on confidence," the MC spits as he emerges from a blockade of his stoic-looking crew members. From there, we see Drake rapping in front of a rundown building with the letters "OVOXO" sprayed in graffiti on the wall, and then spitting his verse in a high-rise elevator.
Interestingly enough, no other members of the Young Money team appear in the video; no cameos from Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj or Cash Money's Birdman. It is a family affair, however. By the start of the second verse, Drake sits at the head of a dining table, puffing on a cigar with an assortment of wine bottles scattered about. Members of his team sit with him in a "Sopranos"-style, La Cosa Nostra scene.
It isn't the over-the-top video Kanye West directed for Drizzy's "Best I Ever Had." Instead "Headlines," like the previously released "Marvins Room" video (also from Take Care), is set in Canada and gives a more intimate look into who the superstar rapper really is.
As the clip comes to a close, Drake is once again standing center field in Roger's Centre as the stadium's dome opens to reveal Toronto's skyline. Who says you can't go back home?
What do you think of Drake's new video? Tell us in the comments!
